My review is not based on the service or quality of the merchandise. I actually found the staff to be quite friendly and knowledgeable. My issue is with their rigid no return on tire chains rule.
I had just transferred to Campbell River from the lower mainland and got ahead of myself and purchased two sets of tire chains from Napa. After talking to a few of the locals and the RCMP I realized that I did not need them. My wife and I both drive 4x4’s with good tires and lots of experience driving in the snow. I tried to return the chains unopened and unused to the store two days later. I spoke with the manager and had emailed the owner. Both while pleasant enough made it very clear they will not take the $400 worth of chains back. The owner as a compromise did say he would take them back and give me a store credit.
To be fair the receipt clearly states no return on chains. And I can understand how it could be an issue with selling chains at the start of the season to have people take advantage to turn around and return them in the spring.
At first I just took it as a lesson learned, but the more I think about it this just feels wrong. Even though I understand why they have the policy. In this case I feel an exception should have been made. I literally only had the chains for two days. They were still in the packaging. I obviously was not trying to get myself some free chains for the winter as there was another big storm coming, and again it had only been two days since the purchase. Enforcing a rule for the sake of enforcing it just feels wrong…..
